I had heard mixed reviews about this one. Some people loved it, others hated it. I fell pretty much right in the middle. I thought the different characters were very interesting and I enjoyed watching them over the course of the movie, but I thought it was kinda anticlimactic. I remember thinking, when the credits rolled, 'Really? They ended it like that?". It didn't really evoke any emotion. I wasn't a happy ending, but I guess it wasn't really a sad ending either. It was just kinda... nothing.
I didn't see the original with John Wayne so I don't really know how it compares. I'll be interested to see how it'll fare come Oscar time.
